Splurge or Steal: Matte Red Lipstick

If you’ve scrolled through enough of my posts or videos, you know I’m quite fond of a red lip – and the more matte and deep, the better. I always stick to blue-y toned reds, because they avoid making your teeth look yellow. Up until now, my favorite matte red lipsticks have been MAC’s Russian Red, and their limited edition Such Flare from the Glitter & Ice holiday collection in 2011, which is no longer available. In fact, I loved Such Flare so much, knowing it was limited edition, I stocked up on two tubes before it quickly sold out.

You can imagine my dismay when, shopping at my grocery store, I was browsing the beauty aisle and looking over Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipsticks, when I spotted “Really Red” in the matte finish bullet. I didn’t hesitate to purchase it, and took it home and tried it on…and loved it. It’s a great dupe for the two MAC lipsticks mentioned, and although it doesn’t wear quite as long as Russian Red (known for its lip longevity), it’s a wallet-friendly version that in my opinion gives just the same effect, and will look great on a range of different skin tones.
